Wolfee Presenter+ FAQ

Basic Information

Q: What is a typical setup to use Wolfee Presenter+?

A: A typical setup to use Wolfee Presenter+ consists 4 elements: a user, a Wolfee Presenter+, a computing device such as a smart phone or a laptop, and a big display (TV, projector, or VR goggle etc.). The user uses Wolfee Presenter+ to remotely control the computing device, while the content of the computing device is shown on the big display via a cable or wireless connections.

For PC or laptop, HDMI interface is universal. For mobile devices with USB-C interface, a USB-C to HDMI connector maybe needed for a wireline connection to the big display. Wifi technologies such as Wi-Fi Direct (Miracast or Chromecast) can also be used to mirror the mobile screen onto the big screen.

Q: How to connect Wolfee Presenter+ to your computing devices?

A: Wolfee Presenter+ is a Bluetooth wireless remote that pairs with smart phones or laptops just like any other Bluetooth device (see tutorial). Once it’s paired, you can immediately use it to control your computing devices remotely.

Q: Do I need to install a driver or app to use Wolfee Presenter+?

A: No. This is exactly the beauty of the Wolfee Presenter+ solution, pair-and-play without the hassle of installing any driver or app on your various computing devices, yet you can release the full power of Wolfee Presenter+ controlling your devices from afar.

Q: Do I need to point Wolfee Presenter+ to the big display?

A: No, you don’t. Neither should you point it to your computing device that is connected to the display. Unlike Infrared technology commonly used in TV remotes, Bluetooth is not a line-of-sight connection. You can hold Wolfee Presenter+ in any direction, and still be able to control your device as desired.

Q: How is Wolfee Presenter+ powered?

A: Wolfee Presenter+ runs on Lithium-Ion battery that can be recharged with a micro-USB cable, similar to how you recharge a cell phone.

Q: How long can Wolfee Presenter+ last on a full charge?

A: Wolfee Presenter+ has more than 60 hours of working time on a full charge. If you use it 4 hours a day, it will last for more than 2 weeks. When the device is in Sleep Mode (not connected to any host, also On/Off Switch is set to On), Wolfee Presenter+ can last more than 400 days of idleness. This time measurement is even longer if Switch is off.

Compatibility

Q: What OS systems are compatible with Wolfee Presenter+?

A: In general, Wolfee Presenter+ will be compatible with any OS system that supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). These include but not limited to:

• Windows 10 or later
• Android 5.0 or later
• Mac OS X 10.10 or later
• Linux 3.19 or later

There are other OS systems, for example Apple’s iOS, though supports BLE it blocks low level APIs so that mouse operations and cursor control are disallowed. In this case, Wolfee Presenter+ can only be used for limited presentation functions such as black screen, slide forward/backward, laser etc.

Q: What Android devices are compatible with Wolfee Presenter+?

A: See the OS compatible question, Wolfee Presenter+ should be compatible with any device that runs on Android 5.0 or later. But beware, some manufactures on some devices may exert certain limitations in their firmware that renders cursor control not usable.

A user should make sure his Android device can be mirrored onto a big display either via cable or wirelessly. This may require him to purchase necessary accessories and/or download certain apps.

Presently in video transmission, wireline technologies are still superior to their wireless counterparts in terms of performances, particularly data rate and delay. This may all change once 5G technology is prevalent, but before that, we suggest a user should examine if his phone has video out capability before he makes the purchase.

Most flagship and high-end Android phones are now equipped with a USB-C connector with video out enabled. Exceptions such as Google Pixel and Pixel 2 which have USB-C port but do not turn on video out are on the market too.

We have tested Wolfee Presenter+ working fine with many Android phones, among which are Samsung S8+/S9+, Huawei Mate 10 Pro/ P20 Pro etc.

Q: What presentation apps are compatible with Wolfee Presenter+?

A: Wolfee Presenter+ is optimized for Microsoft’s PowerPoint on Windows and Android. When it is used for PPT on Mac, or Keynote on Mac, or Prezi, or PPT on iOS, some functions do not work. A quick comparison shows how Wolfee Presenter+ works in each situation.

Tips & Tricks

 Q: How to play/pause a video with Wolfee Presenter+?

A: In compatible OS’ and apps (see Compatibility section), mouse clicks and cursor control are allowed. A user can use Wolfee Presenter+ similar to a mouse to control the video in the presentation: move the thumb on Touch Surface to activate a cursor on the screen, click Front Button on any part of the video to play it. To pause it, move the cursor down to the bottom-left corner, click Front Button to activate the video control bar, then click on the Pause symbol to pause the video.

For PPT on Windows and the video is inserted in the PPT file from a local file, there is an easier way to control videos at will. When get to the page with video on it, simple one click Touch Button will start playing the video, another click will pause it.

For PPT on Android, a user needs to do one extra step prior: double click on Left Ring Button (TAB) to set the focus on the video (dotted line encircling the video), then click Touch Button to play/pause it.

When the video is inserted into the presentation as a link, then clicking Touch Button does not have effect on the video. This is by PowerPoint’s design. A user has to resort to the general way to control the video described earlier.

Q: How to navigate on a Google Map with Wolfee Presenter+?

A: Click Front Button and hold it, move the Thumb on Touch Surface up/down/left/right to drag the map accordingly. Release the button to stop panning.

Double click Front Button and hold the button down on the second click, move the cursor up to zoom out, down to zoom in. After zooming is done release the button.
